Head of Parts Intelligence

Jun 10, 2024

About the Role

Everyone talks about AI, but from working with shops across the country we know that to create real value it needs to be trained in the messy realities of heavy-duty. As Head of Parts Intelligence, you will bring hands-on parts department experience to the founding team. You will help train the AI models, work directly with our customers, and reshape how parts departments operate.

What you’ll do

  • Build our "Heavy Duty Parts Bench" evaluation set. This is a collection of real-world parts tasks against which we can judge performance and progress of our AI Agent.

  • Convert your tacit knowledge to structured data, written playbooks, and SOPs.

  • Help source industry catalogs and printed materials that aren’t already available online but that hold valuable information for a parts department.

  • Bring industry DNA to the founding team. The company will rely on you to share the unwritten rules and best practices of the industry. Which data sources do you trust? Where have you made expensive mistakes before on a job?

  • Give direct input into corporate strategy, partnerships, and marketing.

  • Provide direct customer support for shops nationwide. Our customers trust us with real parts identification and sourcing problems. When AI fails to get the answer, you’ll be the expert backstop to ensure our customers still get the job done. This means direct communication with mechanics and parts professionals. You know what questions to ask, and can communicate clearly over the phone or email.

Who we’re looking for

  • 10+ years of heavy-duty repair experience. Wide variety of makes and models. You're the one people go to when there is an impossible part to find.

  • You know all the questions to ask a mechanic to make sure you’re getting the right part, and you know all the sources to check for fitment and confirmed aftermarket crosses.

  • You like new technology, and probably already use ChatGPT or AI regularly.

  • You're interested in trying something new in your career, and excited to build something from the ground up with significant ownership and impact.

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and shifting job responsibilities.

  • You have familiarity with Microsoft office and are comfortable preparing technical documentation.

  • You're authorized to work in the USA.

Nice to Have

  • Experience training or mentoring junior parts staff.

  • Network in the heavy-duty truck industry.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in the company.

  • Opportunity to shape an industry-transforming AI software from early days.

  • Work at a well-funded startup with an experienced team that moves fast and grows quickly.

  • Remote-friendly position. We’ll expect you to fly into San Francisco to meet with our team on a regular basis, as well as come to periodic off-site team events and conferences.

To Apply: email founders@heaviai.com with a quick resume and a note about why you think you might be a good fit for the role. We'd love to hear from you, even if you're unsure.
